Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Apply for more than one CAPED Student Scholarship?
Applicants do not need to submit more than one application per year. The CAPED Scholarship Committee will award eleven scholarships to eleven individuals.
Can I apply for a CAPED Student Scholarship if I am a high school senior?
Applicants must have completed at least six undergraduate semester units or eight undergraduate quarter units from a public or private California university/college with a grade point average of at least 2.5 to be considered for a CAPED student scholarship.
Will CAPED accept my scanned or faxed application?
Applications must be TYPED and mailed by the postmarked deadline of September 8, 2014.
How do I know if I qualify for the scholarship as a person with a disability?
Any student with a verified physical, mental, or learning disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as defined in the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and who is enrolled in an accredited California state university, community college, or private college is eligible to apply for the CAPED Student Scholarship.
What disability verification do I need to send?
Documentation from a post-secondary education disability office will be accepted. Documentation should include type of disability.
How will my Letter of Application be evaluated?
Letters will be reviewed for your writing skills, completeness (including statement of progress towards meeting your educational and vocational goals), how you manage your disability, and your involvement in community activities. NOTE: Only students selected to receive a scholarship will be notified.
What should the Letter of Recommendation include?
The letter of recommendation needs to be from a college classroom instructor describing your academic achievements and your ability to meet your scholastic responsibilities.
Can I apply if I am a graduate student with a disability?
Yes, if you are a graduate student, you must have a GPA of 3.0 and at least three graduate semester units or four graduate quarter units from a public or private California university/college.
