The mission of CAPED is to promote the full and effective participation of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of California Higher Education. We advocate and facilitate equal educational opportunity through appropriate support services, curriculum, instruction, policies, and funding allocations. We work to eliminate discrimination against people with disabilities, and to promote their independence, growth, productivity, and equality.

CAPED President's Message

Lucinda Aborn, Ph.D., CRC

 Dear Members,

The past two years as your CAPED President have been most rewarding and productive. Our Executive Board continues to commit to moving our organization towards improved service to our members. During the summer at our Leadership Advance, we established our long range goals to increase membership, improve our website, deliver quality professional development opportunities and develop strategic alliances.

Over the last two years we have much to be proud of. We celebrated our 30 th Anniversary as the first association of it's kind in the nation. The celebration was part of our annual convention in Rancho Mirage. The convention was a huge success. Thank you all for your support of the convention. During the convention we celebrated CAPED's 30 th Anniversary at the President's Reception in honor of all Past Presidents and of our members. The convention also hosted the “Tee Off” with our 1 st Annual Golf Tournament. The Tournament benefited our Scholarship funds. The keynote speakers were outstanding and the topic sessions were both informative and stimulating.

We continue to look to improve communication with our membership. We published three issues of the Communique and hired a new web design company. We welcome Patrick Patterson with WebDesign Logistics to our organization. Our newly designed web pages will be launch in October. I know you will find them easier to use and with helpful information. Please this website: www.caped.net frequently in the next few months to see continued improvements. We welcome your feedback.

I am proud to have served as your President for the past two years. I have appreciated the support from the Officers Council, Executive Board and all of CAPED's membership. I look forward to serving as the Past President during 2006-2008. Help me welcome our new President, Dr. Bob Hughlett. Together we will accomplish many new tasks that will result in a stronger CAPED.

Respectfully,

Lucinda Aborn, Ph.D., CRC
CAPED President 2004-2006
